Commercial Pilot

Do you want to get paid to fly airplanes? This is where the commercial certificate is needed. You’ll learn more about the national airspace system (NAS), rules and regulations, aerodynamics, and everything else aviation related while also learning some new flight maneuvers that demonstrate your mastery over your airplane.

Training requirements established by the FAA

  • 250 hours total flight time
  • 100 hours of pilot in command time, at least 50 of which must be in airplanes
  • 50 hours of cross-country time, at least 10 of which must be in airplanes
  • 20 hours of flight training from an instructor, including:
    • 10 hours of instrument flight training
    • 10 hours of complex airplane or TAA flight training
    • 100nm cross-country training flight during the day
    • 100nm cross-country training flight at night
    • 3 hours of training in preparation for the FAA Commercial Pilot Practical Test
  • 10 hours of solo training, including various cross-country and night
    • 10 take-offs and landings at night at a towered airport
    • 200nm solo cross-country (long cross-country)
  • Pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Airman Knowledge Test
  • Pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Practical Test (checkride)
